A revamp up front – How Manchester City could line up against West Brom

City are lacking ideas up front, ranking just 11th in goals scored in the Premier League.

Tuesday night could provide an opportunity for Manchester City to take some frustrations out when they welcome West Bromwich Albion to the Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens have only scored 17 goals in their 11 games so far, placing them in the bottom half of the league in terms of goals scored.

Sergio Aguero is unlikely to be available for the midweek clash, at least from the start, which would hint at Gabriel Jesus leading the line again.

But the Brazilian has now gone six games without a goal for Manchester City and has only scored twice in his six Premier League appearances so far.

Ferran Torres is the club’s top scorer in the Champions League with four goals across five appearances in the group stages, and after playing only from the bench in Saturday’s Manchester Derby, the Spaniard could be in line to start up front.

On either side of the centre-forward City are having similar issues, with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez struggling for consistent form.

Phil Foden didn’t come off the bench at Old Trafford and could start in one of the attacking midfield positions. Mahrez’s recent hat-trick against Burnley may give Pep Guardiola confidence of a repeat performance from the Algerian.

Ilkay Gundogan also failed to feature against United and will likely slot back into midfield, and the same could be said for Aymeric Laporte at centre-back.

Benjamin Mendy scored in that win against Burnley and could come back into the lineup at the expense of Joao Cancelo having also missed the entirety of the derby.

City remain six points off the pace in the Premier League, and Guardiola will be eager for the goals to start flowing as his side looks to be included in the title race come season’s end.
