Inter overtook Lazio into second place in Serie A on Monday after overcoming Torino 3-1 at home, with Alexis Sanchez enjoying another chapter in his upturn in form by assisting two of the three goals.

Ashley Young, Diego Godin, and Lautaro Martinez scored the goals, with the Manchester United loanee setting up the latter pair.

What was Sanchez's overall display like?

📷 Match Snapshot

It was a relatively quiet first half not just for Sanchez but for most Inter players on the pitch, even if he did look sharp and confident, brimming with gusto due to his slightly improved vein of form.

Inter actually went behind in the match 17 minutes in, but Sanchez was key in their revival in the second period. After Ashley Young equalised three minutes into the second half, Sanchez would assist the goal to put them 2-1 up, and in some style.

A ⏱️ 51' He takes a short corner to Marcelo Brozovic, who in turn returns the short pass, allowing Sanchez to burst into a central areas before passing to Young on the edge of the box. The Englishman then clips a lovely ball up and over the Torino defence for his team-mate, who cushions a header back across goal for Godin to finish the move with a header of his own.

A ⏱️ 61' Ten minutes later, Inter went 3-1 up. Martinez's name may be down as the goalscorer following his fortunate deflected attempt over the keeper, but Sanchez deserves the credit for this one. The 31-year-old initially displays impressive desire and strength to rob Armando Izzo of possession near the halfway line before turning and darting into the final third at pace. He eventually finds Martinez for the long-range finish.

A few minutes later, he was unlucky not to get a goal himself with a rasper of a strike that was palmed wide by Salvatore Sirigu.

The Chilean had 59 touches of the ball and completed 31/38 attempted passes, with a huge 29 of these passes being sent into the final third.

His six crosses into the penalty area, and the 29 passes into the final third, were the joint highest tally on the day alongside team-mates Young and Borja Valero for each respective metric.

The overall performance earned him a 8.8 FC Rating.

〽️ Rating Week-on-Week

✔️ IMPROVEMENT

As mentioned previously, Sanchez is in a decent run of form at the moment, with him enjoying the best performance of his Inter career three games ago. That was followed by a FC Rating of 7.0 against Verona (with a cameo against Bologna in between).

So, the consistency still needs to come, but when he is playing well at the moment he is playing very well, as from the Verona game to Torino he earned a boost from 7.0 to a 8.8 FC Rating.

What Next?

It is a big ask for Inter to claw themselves back into contention for the Scudetto as they are currently eight points adrift of leaders Juventus with six games left to play.

Next up for them is a trip to SPAL, where they will be hoping Sanchez can put together two exceptional performances in a row without the decline in between.
