Bologna and Shakhtar Donetsk played out a tense goalless draw in their Champions League clash, with both sides showing some nous but ultimately lacking the cutting edge to secure a win.

Bologna dominated possession slightly, but Shakhtar were defensively solid throughout the encounter, ensuring that neither side could break the deadlock. Despite the lack of goals, the match was not without its standout performances, particularly in defence, with Bologna’s Jhon Lucumí putting in an exceptional display.

While Bologna struggled to convert their chances, with only four shots on target, they still outperformed Shakhtar in terms of overall attacking output. Shakhtar, on the other hand, relied on their goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk to keep them in the game, with the Ukrainian side managing just one shot on target during the 90 minutes.

Bologna Player Ratings

Bologna’s overall performance was solid but unspectacular, with their defensive line shining brightest. Jhon Lucumí was the clear standout with a stellar 9.2 rating, consistently thwarting Shakhtar’s rare attacking threats. Stefan Posch and Sam Beukema also impressed in defence, recording respectable ratings of 6.6 and 7.5 respectively.

However, Bologna’s attacking trio of Riccardo Orsolini, Sydney Castro, and Dan Ndoye failed to find the back of the net, with Orsolini and Castro notably struggling, receiving ratings of 5.9 and 5.8.

In midfield, Remo Freuler anchored the play effectively, earning a solid 7.2 rating, while Giovanni Fabbian and Nikola Moro contributed with ratings of 6.1 and 6.8.

Though Bologna showed moments of promise, their inability to turn possession into goals ultimately held them back from securing a victory.

Shakhtar Donetsk Player Ratings

Shakhtar’s standout player was goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk, who earned an impressive 8.0 rating for his crucial saves, which kept Bologna from finding a breakthrough.

Mykola Matviienko and Pedrinho were solid in defence, with ratings of 7.2 and 7.1, respectively, while Valeriy Bondar contributed to a stable backline with a 6.8 rating.

However, Shakhtar's attacking players underperformed, with Oleksandr Zubkov, Danylo Sikan, and Heorhii Sudakov all struggling to make an impact. Zubkov and Sikan were particularly disappointing, earning ratings of 5.6 and 5.7.

Despite their solid defensive effort, Shakhtar’s inability to mount any serious threat going forward was a major factor in the stalemate.

Best Player of the Match - Jhon Lucumí

Bologna’s Jhon Lucumí was the standout performer, delivering an impeccable defensive display with a rating of 9.2. His timing, anticipation, and ability to read the game ensured that Shakhtar’s attack was neutralised throughout the match. Lucumí’s dominance in aerial duels and clearances helped Bologna earn a hard-fought point.
