Thomas Tuchel picked up his first defeat as Chelsea manager in surprising circumstances as West Brom came from behind to beat the Stamford Bridge side 5-2.

In the early fixture on Saturday afternoon it was Sam Allardyce’s side that showed plenty of drive and perseverance in not only coming from behind but winning the game by a relatively comfortable margin.

However, the famous victory was only possible due to a number of terrible, individual performances in the Chelsea side.

Thiago Silva: 5.1

After Christian Pulisic scored the opening goal of the game 27 minutes into the match, Saturday’s clash seemed as though it was going to be a straightforward affair for Chelsea.

However, disaster suddenly struck just two minutes later when senior defender Thiago Silva lunged at a shot on the edge of the box and was awarded a yellow card for being late and catching the opposing player.

Due to the Brazilian’s clear lack of match sharpness, this was already Silva’s second yellow card of the game and as such the central defender was sent off. From there Tuchel’s side crumbled entirely.

Hakim Ziyech: 5.7

With two goals in his last two games for Chelsea prior to the international break, Saturday’s clash with West Brom was supposed to be Ziyech’s opportunity to continue a rare run of good form at Stamford Bridge. Unfortunately that’s not what happened.

While Pulisic got his goal and Timo Werner got an assist, the former Ajax star offered very little at all over the course of the first 30 minutes of the game and was unfortunately the man chosen to be pulled off to allow Chelsea to stick on another defender.

Edouard Mendy: 5.0

In a tricky match that saw Chelsea lose one of their key defenders just 29 minutes into the game, Tuchel would have really hoped to see a confident performance from his goalkeeper over the course of the game. That simply didn’t happen.

Although the Stamford Bridge side were down to 10 men, they still had plenty of defenders on the pitch and perhaps could have saved this match from descending into chaos had Mendy managed to pull off a couple of saves, rather than pull the ball out of his next on five, separate occasions.
