    About this derby

The Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool completely overshadows everything else in the city when the matches come around. The Red of Liverpool have been hugely successful in modern times, leaving the Blue side of the city resentful and desperate to get one over their rivals at any opportunity. The atmosphere between these sides is one of intense, passionate tribalism, but one that comes with a greater degree of respect than perhaps other derbies have. Rather than straight, unconventional hatred on both sides, there is a edge involving the city of Liverpool itself, and how this fixture, and the conduct of the fans, represents everyone to the wider world. As a result the matchday experience is a perfect mix of anticipation, loyalty and honour.
