European Goals of the Week, Sep 23: Kane is bizarre but wonderful

Harry Kane can't be the first player to score a goal while face-planting, but it doesn't make it any less unique, or brilliant.

Meanwhile, Ribery rolls back the years and Kante's great goal counts for nothing in the end.

5. NEYMAR'S BACK

Lyon v PSG on Sep 22 won't be winning any awards come the end of the season for thrills, the hosts looking keen to just avoid defeat, but Neymar came to the fore in superb fashion in the dying embers of the contest, swivelling sweetly before arrowing his strike across goal and into the corner.

4. KANTE CAN

Chelsea ultimately couldn't hand Liverpool their first league defeat of the season but N'Golo Kante's irrepressible individual goal gave them a brief glint of hope. Taking matters in his own hands, he drove straight at the heart of the Reds' back line before curling his shot expertly right into the top corner. Shame it counted for nothing in the end.

3. RIBERY'S NOT RETIRED

Eyebrows were raised when Franck Ribery rocked up in Florence after his Bayern Munich exit, but his sublime finish against Atalanta suggests his career is far from done yet. Federico Chiesa's determination and raking cross-field pass landed on the boot of the Frenchman, whose finish was clinically dispatched into the corner.

2. VELOSO'S HALF-VOLLEY

A totally bizarre series of events took place in the Juventus v Verona clash in Turin. Verona are awarded a penalty, Samuel Di Carmine steps ups but slots his kick against the post. The ball rebounds to Darko Lazovic, who then smashes the ball against the crossbar. As the play develops Miguel Veloso moves onto a bouncing ball and smashes an unstoppable half-volley past Gianluigi Buffon. Juve came back to win but this was the moment to remember.

1. KANE'S FACEPLANT GOAL

The very best forwards can score while their nose is heading towards the grass, and Harry Kane's wonderful piece of improvisation has to be seen to be believed. Running through on goal he received a nudge which caused him to lose balance, but he still wanted to score. Kane, somehow, swung out his leg and scooped the ball over Kasper Schmeichel and into the corner. It takes 10 watches to work out how he even managed it.
