Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) kick off their 2024-25 Champions League campaign with a home clash against Girona, the Spanish underdogs making their tournament debut. PSG are in fine form after a dominant start to the domestic season and hope to begin their European journey on the right foot, while Girona look to cause an upset on their biggest stage yet.

PSG Recent Form

PSG have begun their Ligue 1 season in flying form, winning all four of their opening matches. Most recently, they secured a 3-1 comeback victory over Brest, continuing their strong run under new coach Luis Enrique. PSG have only lost one of their last 36 home matches in the Champions League, making the Parc des Princes a fortress.

Injury and Team News

PSG will be without key players such as Goncalo Ramos (ankle), Presnel Kimpembe (Achilles), and Lucas Hernandez (ACL). First-choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is also ruled out with a thigh issue, meaning Matvey Safonov is expected to make his debut. Warren Zaire-Emery and Vitinha are doubtful.

Last PSG Lineup

Here is how PSG lined up for their last match:

Girona Recent Form

Girona have had a mixed start to their La Liga campaign, winning two and losing two of their first five matches. After back-to-back wins against Osasuna and Sevilla, they were humbled 4-1 by Barcelona, a loss that may affect their confidence going into their first-ever Champions League tie.

Injury and Team News

Girona are missing Ricard Artero (ankle) and Jastin (shoulder), while Yangel Herrera remains doubtful due to an adductor problem. Oriol Romeu is set to return after missing the Barcelona match, and Abel Ruiz is likely to continue leading the line.

Last Girona Lineup

Here is how Girona lined up for their last match:

PSG Player to Watch

Bradley Barcola has been in excellent form for PSG, scoring four goals in his last four matches. The young forward will be a key figure in their attack, especially after the transfer of Kylian Mbappé.

Prediction

PSG’s attacking prowess should prove too much for Girona on their Champions League debut. While the Spanish side might show flashes of promise, PSG’s experience and firepower will likely see them through comfortably.

Our Prediction: PSG 3-1 Girona

Betting Tips

Tip 1: Over 3.5 Goals

With PSG scoring freely and Girona showing vulnerability in defence, this match has the potential for goals, making over 3.5 a strong option at 5/4 odds on some operators.

Tip 2: PSG to Score in Both Halves

PSG have scored in both halves in most of their matches so far this season. At evens with some oddsmakers, this bet offers good value.

Tip 3: Over 10.5 Corners

PSG’s recent home matches in the Champions League have seen plenty of corners. Backing over 10.5 corners at 6/5 from some bookies could be a solid choice.
