'Where are the goals coming from?' – Carragher laments ‘non-existent’ Liverpool threat

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes the club’s away form is beginning to be significant cause for alarm after a 1-0 defeat to Southampton.

A single goal from Danny Ings decided the match in favour of the home side, but what was notable was the lack of reaction from Jurgen Klopp’s men.

They struggled to create a notable chance over the course of the match and finished having mustered just a single shot on target over the course of the game.

“This Liverpool team has been amazing, but it’s going through one of the first rough patches it’s experienced in the last couple of seasons,” he told Sky Sports.

“But a big worry is where are the goals coming from and where is the creation coming from, because it looks non-existent at this point in time.

“They never looked like scoring. The Southampton keeper has just come into the starting XI. Did he make a good save? Did he make a big save? Did anyone miss a real chance? That’s a really big worry for Liverpool at this moment, in terms of what they’re creating away from home. It’s nowhere near enough.

“It’s almost like they’ve forgotten how to play the last seven or eight minutes when they need something. The way Liverpool played in the first 15 minutes of the second half was fantastic. They penned Southampton in. You’d expect that in the last seven or eight minutes.”

Carragher points to a corner that the Reds won after the displayed injury time had expired.

“What summed it up was Liverpool’s corner,” he said. “Injury time has gone, you have to put it into the box. You’ve basically got to score in about 10 seconds. They played it short. It’s unbelievable.”

Liverpool continue to top the Premier League on goal difference from Manchester United but have played a game more than their great rivals.
