Kelechi Iheanacho's late penalty won the Community Shield for Leicester City as they beat Premier League champions Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley.
In an end-to-end game, it was Leicester who emerged victorious after Iheanacho dispatched his spot-kick in the 89th minute. Nathan Ake's loose touch inside his own penalty area allowed Iheanacho to sneak in, and when trying to rectify his mistake, Ake took out the Leicester striker, rather than the ball.
Iheanacho then fired home past Zack Steffen to win the trophy for Leicester.
Of course, the Foxes qualified for the final thanks to defeating Chelsea in the FA Cup Final, while City took part after reclaiming the Premier League trophy.
As perhaps expected, City dominated much of the early proceedings, but Leicester were extremely dangerous on the counter-attack, with Harvey Barnes in particular, who impressed on his return to fitness. He had 17 goals and assists in 29 starts before his season-ending injury last year, and he was electric once more at Wembley; expect a big season from Leicester's new number seven.
Kasper Schmeichel made an outstanding save from an Ilkay Gundogan free-kick early on, before City 'keeper Zack Steffen matched it by denying Jamie Vardy from point-blank range in the latter stages of the first-half.
City youngster Sam Edozie is just 18, but after scoring three goals in pre-season for the first-team, he was rewarded with a first competitive start for the senior team. While not the finished product by any means, he impressed with his dribbling ability, although a few passes went slack.
He played well on the whole, however, and was replaced in the second half by new signing Jack Grealish. City broke the British transfer record to sign the Aston Villa captain, and just days after joining the club, he made his debut.
The fluid, attacking nature of the game continued well into the second half, with Ferran Torres unable to bring down a long-ball when played through on goal.
City continued to dominate with Grealish on the field, but Ake's mis-control allowed Iheanacho to steal the ball away from him inside City's box, and while the eventual shot was missed, the referee awarded a penalty, which was coolly slotted home by the former Man City striker.
It ensured Leicester won the Community Shield for just the second time in their history.
