Portugal go into Euro 2020 as one of the favourites for the tournament but in Hungary they face a difficult opening test.
Fernando Santos has one of the most talented squads in this summer’s competition, however anything but the perfect starting XI could find themselves struggling against a stubborn host.
So how will Portugal line up against Hungary?
In defence Santos will undoubtedly be rocked by the news that Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo has tested positive for COVID and will now miss the competition. In this place, Diogo Dalot has been called up but it’s more likely that Nelson Semendo will take his place at right back.
On the left Borussia Dortmund full-back Raphael Guerreiro will surely take up his usual spot, while Santos will have to pick between Jose Fonte and Pepe to see which one starts alongside Ruben Dias. It’ll most likely be the former.
In midfield there should be fewer surprises, as Portugal stick with a traditional trio of Bruno Fernandes, Danilo Pereira and Joao Moutinho to sure things up in the middle of the park as well as providing enough service to the front three.
Portugal undoubtedly have some of the most talented forward players in Europe and that will be made abundantly clear on Tuesday when the side are likely to line up with Diogo Jota on the left, Bernardo Silva on the right and Cristiano Ronaldo through the middle as the team’s No.9.
