Turkey will be looking to secure their first win in the 2024-25 UEFA Nations League when they face Iceland in Izmir.

Both teams will aim to build on their respective opening matches, with Turkey seeking to improve on their draw against Wales and Iceland hoping to make it two wins out of two following a solid victory over Montenegro.

Match Preview

Turkey

Turkey Recent Form

Turkey have had a mixed run of results recently, having been knocked out in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 by the Netherlands.

In their first Nations League game this season, they were held to a goalless draw by Wales and had a player sent off, making their opening to this campaign somewhat frustrating.

Prior to that, they topped their 2022-23 Nations League group, earning promotion to League B.

Turkey Injury News

Turkey will be without Baris Alper Yilmaz, who received a red card in their last match. Arda Guler may step into a more attacking role, with Hakan Calhanoglu possibly joining the midfield.

The rest of the squad is expected to remain unchanged from the side that faced Wales.

Iceland

Iceland Recent Form

Iceland missed out on Euro 2024 qualification but are off to a strong start in the Nations League, having secured a 2-0 win over Montenegro in their opener.

The team has been inconsistent, with their form alternating between wins and losses in recent matches. However, they will be optimistic after a morale-boosting 1-0 friendly win over England in June.

Iceland Injury News

There are no new injury concerns for Iceland, and their coach, Age Hareide, is unlikely to make many changes.

Orri Oskarsson, who scored against Montenegro, and Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson, both attacking threats, are expected to feature prominently again.

Players to Watch

Turkey Player to Watch

Arda Guler – With the absence of Yilmaz, Guler could play a vital role in leading Turkey’s attack. His versatility and creativity will be key in breaking down Iceland's defence.

Iceland Player to Watch

Orri Oskarsson – The 20-year-old striker has been in fine form for his country, scoring in their last match against Montenegro. His ability to find the net will be crucial for Iceland.

Prediction

This game could be tightly contested, with both teams capable of grinding out results.

Turkey, despite being at home, may find it difficult to overcome a resilient Iceland. A low-scoring draw seems likely, with Iceland possibly continuing their solid form.

Our Prediction: Turkey 1-1 Iceland
